Dozens Of Crashes Across Denver During First 2 Hours Of Snowfall

"Here's an idea — if you don't absolutely have to get on the roads today, don't," Denver police tweeted.

DENVER, CO — Denver police were called to more than 26 vehicle crashes before 7 a.m. Tuesday, the department said in a tweet. Officers responded to a total of 18 crashes around 6 a.m.

Officers were called to a five-vehicle crash at Platte River and Florida Avenue around 9 a.m., police said. Florida was closed in both directions. It's unknown whether there were injuries.

South Denver is particularly dangerous for drivers, according to the Denver Police Department.

One person called 1st Ave and Perry Street an "ice rink." A video shows a car sliding out of control into several vehicles.

The only good news is apparently it's too cold to steal cars — as of 8 a.m., no vehicles were stolen while they were warming up, police said.

The National Weather Service has issued another Winter Storm Warning — this time until noon on Wednesday.
