Englewood Getting One Of The World's Largest Gyms

Will be more than 52,000 square feet and located in the former headquarters of Sports Authority.

That giant former Sports Authority headquarters in Englewood that has sat empty since the company filed for bankruptcy? It's going to be a gym. Not just a gym but one of the nation's largest.

Earth Treks, which has climbing gyms in Golden, Virginia, and Maryland, announced Monday they plan to open the largest gym in the country at the location.

"With a massive footprint exceeding 52,000 square feet, Earth Treks Englewood will be the largest gym in the nation!" the company said on its Facebook page.

The 88,000-square-foot 24-Hour Fitness in Aurora is actually larger.

"In addition to world-class roped climbing and bouldering terrain, Englewood guests will find their favorite amenities including a yoga studio, fitness and cardio zones, system & campus boards, climbing classes, a retail gear shop and on-site child care."

The company says they plan to have the facility open next year and that it will have the following features:

  • Climbing walls constructed by Walltopia, designed by Jason Kehl and packed with bouldering and roped terrain
  • Huge fitness and climbing training areas
  • Dedicated yoga and group fitness room
  • Private climbing teaching areas
  • High-end locker rooms
  • Fully stocked gear shop
  • On-site child care
  • Easy access to light rail & bike trails
  • Multi-gym memberships will be available – more details on this will be released prior to the 2018 opening

Earth Treks is working on expansion. In addition to the Englewood gym, they are looking at another half-dozen in the region.
