FREE: Lakewood's New ArtLine To Open With Dino-Party

LAKEWOOD, CO -- Lakewood's ArtLine will officially open with a bang Friday June 1 with a block party in the 40 West Arts Creative District on Lakewood Place.

The interactive biking and walking art and sculpture trail winds its way through historic neighborhoods along West Colfax Avenue and the W Line light rail in the heart of the state-certified 40 West Arts Creative District. The ArtLine connects Aviation, Mountair and Walker Branch parks, where visitors can see the most significant artwork of 70 new pieces along the route.

A painted green line leads through ground murals, story totems, interactive sculptures and fence art.

"The ArtLine has been driven by community members who are committed to nurturing and developing the route, so that over the years, each visit to the ArtLine can be different from the last. It’s envisioned to become the longest continuous arts experience in Colorado," a press release from 40 West Arts said.

One theme of the ArtLine is the stegosaurus, with a giant stego-themed bench along the path.

The party will honor that dinosaur theme with "dinosaur flash mobs", hidden dinosaur eggs with prizes and "Mr. Bones" (a life-sized dinosaur skeleton walking the streets).

According to the City of Lakewood:

The 40 West ArtLine is supported by an Our Town grant from the National Endowment for the Arts, given to communities who want to transform into lively, beautiful and resilient places through art and creative placemaking. The ArtLine received the largest grant available under Our Town program, making it the highest of such awards for any project in Colorado. It was also the first award ever granted to Lakewood.
