Ft. Collins Climber Dies In Rocky Mtn. National Park
Henry Gholz, 66, died Sept. 30 after falling 50 feet while technical climbing near Estes Park.

ESTES PARK, CO. -- A Fort Collins man died Sept. 30 after a fall while technical climbing in Rocky Mountain National Park, The Estes Park News reported. Henry Gholz, 66, fell about 50 feet while scaling "Batman and Robin route on Batman Pinnacle in the Lumpy Ridge area of Rocky Mountain National Park, the News reported.
Bystanders attempted to help Gholz with CPR before help arrived, but park rangers found him dead on the scene.
The National Forest Service closed the Lumpy Ridge area including Batman Pinnacle, Batman Rock and Checkerboard Rock while a long line helicopter transported the body around 8:45 a.m. to the Larimer County Coroner’s Office.

Saturday, Sept. 30 was a free day at Rocky Mountain National Park, and traditionally one of the busiest days of the year.
According to his professional website, Gholz, who had retired, for the National Science Foundation's Division of Environmental Biology, and listed rock climbing as a hobby.
