1. As drought conditions worsen, #Denver Board of Water Commissioners declares formal end to lawn watering season October 1, 2026: Resolution orders sprinkler shut-downs, end to lawn watering; hand-water (coyotegulch.blog) — If you're a Denver Water customer, plan to shut off your sprinklers by September 30, because lawn watering is formally banned starting October 1 due to severe drought. The Denver Board of Water Commissioners says storage is far below normal and the restriction will likely extend into spring 2027. Hand-watering trees, shrubs, and gardens is still allowed under strict rules, with limited exceptions for parks and recycled water users.

2. Colorado schools are losing students as births, migration slow (gazette.com) — Shrinking enrollment is reshaping Colorado's public schools, with Denver Public Schools temporarily propped up by an influx of immigrant students even as an underlying decline continues. Nearby districts like Cherry Creek, Jeffco, Douglas County, Aurora, and Colorado Springs' D-11 are all adjusting to fewer school-age children, shifting migration, and more homeschooling, changes that could drive more school closures and budget cuts along the Front Range.

3. Bear roams into Denver neighborhood, tumbles out of tree after being tranquilized (wkrn.com) — A young black bear wandered into Denver's Platt Park neighborhood Sunday morning, drawing police and Colorado Parks and Wildlife officers who tranquilized it and safely relocated it. Neighbors watched as the bear tumbled from a tree but was uninjured, highlighting what officials call a historic year for bear activity. Residents are urged to secure trash, bird feeders, and outdoor food to avoid more close encounters.
