Pizza Prices: Which States Have The Most Expensive Dough?
The Mile High City is on the pricier end of the pizza price index. See exactly where Denver stands.

No other food is as much of a crowd pleaser as pizza is, regardless of whether or not you put pineapple on as a topping. That age old debate will likely never be settled, and let’s face it. Lots of places are known for speciality pizzas. Whatever your favorite pizza topping or type might be, it’s safe to say the cost of a pizza pie changes depending on where you’re at, and the establishment or pizzeria you’re ordering from.
Based on where you are, the price of a slice (or even a whole pie) might surprise you. To determine which states and cities have the cheapest average price of pizza, WorkWise recently figured out exactly how much the price of a pie costs in some of the biggest cities in the country like Denver.
Surprisingly, the most expensive city for pizza in the United States comes out to be Memphis. This is the most expensive city to buy a pizza where the average price of a pizza is $32.50. The least expensive city to buy a pizza isn’t too far away from the Mile High city, which happens to have more expensive dough -- about 68 miles away, in fact. Head south from Denver towards Colorado Springs to find the cheapest pizza. A large pizza in Colorado Springs costs an average of $12.50.

WorkWise also crunched the numbers to see how much Americans pizza habits might cost them annually. If the average American eats about 40 pizzas per year, Memphis would also be the city with the highest annual cost. Talk about a big sink in the monthly food or takeout budget. Denverites should consider bumping up their own takeout budget if pizza is a priority, because Denver comes in as the tenth most expensive city when it comes to the price of pizza bought in a year.
The lowest price per slice can be found in our state, too. The lowest price per slice in Colorado is in Colorado Springs too, costing $1.36. Only four cities have an average of over $3.00 per slice. While Denver isn’t one of the top five expensive cities for pizza, it’s pretty clear the pizza price index has some inequalities that truly depend on your coordinates at the time of “order up”.
