DENVER, CO — A fourth-grade student participating in an after-school program at Ellis Elementary School in Denver is accused of stabbing staff members with a stick, according to a report, requiring at least one person to seek treatment for wounds on her collarbone, shoulder blade, back and arm.

The school principal sent a letter to parents informing them of the incident that happened Sept. 4, KUSA-TV reports. According to the letter, the student "became agitated" before injuring staff members with the stick. The letter also said the student's parent was present at the time of the incident. The staff members, child and parent all received medical treatment after police were called.

Principal Jamie Roybal said officials plan to follow school disciplinary procedures to deal with the incident. However, Meagan Weaver — identified to KUSA-TV as the staff member who received the wounds on her collarbone, shoulder blade, back and arm — said since the student is expected to return to school, she will not be returning to work.
