• Southern Ute government becomes first tribe to sign federal energy agreement (the-journal.com) — A major shift in tribal energy control is unfolding just south of Durango, as the Southern Ute Indian Tribe becomes the first in the nation to sign a Tribal Energy Resource Agreement with the U.S. Interior Department. The deal lets the tribe approve and manage most energy and mineral projects on its lands without case‑by‑case federal signoff, while maintaining its own environmental standards and review process.
