• Citizen investigation uncovers origins and destruction of Sheepherder's Monument (skyhinews.com) — A beloved rock cairn above the Fraser Experimental Forest, long visible across the Fraser Valley, was destroyed by vandals sometime in September 2023 after standing for more than 90 years. A local researcher has now traced its origins to sheepherders Fred Pacheco and Joe Compagno in 1932, and community members are weighing whether to rebuild the monument or create an online archive of memories.
   

• Troubled waters: Closures, cautions cast cloud over fishing season in Colorado (gazette.com) — Recent heat and low flows have pushed water temperatures on the Fraser and Colorado rivers above safe levels for trout, prompting Colorado Parks and Wildlife to urge anglers to avoid stressed stretches during hot afternoons. While many popular rivers now have voluntary closures, officials say Fraser-area anglers can still find cooler high-country streams or warm-water options if they plan ahead and carry a thermometer.
