1 Killed Outside Lakewood Walmart, Suspect Shot By Police

A suspect was shot and killed by police in Lakewood after a homicide in a Walmart parking lot, officials said.

LAKEWOOD, CO — A man was killed Friday in Lakewood, and a suspect wanted in connection with the homicide was killed by police, officials said.

The victim, a man in his 20s or 30s, was killed in the parking lot outside Walmart near 4th and Wadsworth.

Officers were called to the area just before 10:30 a.m. after a report of shots fired outside the store. Witnesses said they saw a man "shoot multiple rounds at a victim sitting in his car," police said.

The armed suspect then took off across Wadsworth and tried to carjack employees and customers at the Grease Monkey, 395 Wadsworth Blvd., according to police.

"The carjacking was unsuccessful and as agents moved in, the suspect fled into a neighborhood on the 7700 block of West 4th Ave.," police said in a news release.

The man then began firing at cars, homes and officers, police said.

He was shot by police and taken to the hospital, where he died. His identity has not been released.

No officers were injured in the shooting, police said.

"The Jefferson County Critical Incident Response Team will investigate this shooting," the news release read.

"Per policy, the Lakewood agents who shot the suspect will be placed on administrative leave pending an internal investigation."
