California Man Accused Of Smuggling Fentanyl Into Colorado

JEFFERSON COUNTY, CO — A California man is accused of smuggling the opioid fentanyl into Colorado. A lethal dose of fentanyl is 2 milligrams, and he was found with 7.46 pounds, the 1st Judicial District Attorney's Office said.

Gladimir Jesus Gamez, 33, has been charged with possession with intent to sell fentanyl and one special offender count of introducing or importing into Colorado.

On Feb. 20, a Colorado State Trooper pulled over a white Nissan with California plates on Interstate 70 near 6th Avenue. Gamez consented to the search of the car, and the trooper found three large bricks of fentanyl, according to an arrest affidavit.

The trooper was with the state's Smuggling, Trafficking and Interdiction Section.

Gamez is being held at the Jefferson County jail on $500,000 bond. His preliminary hearing is scheduled for March 20.
