Construction on Cottage Park began in 2021 following a public process where residents determined a new name for the park and what amenities and playground equipment should be included on the site. The City of Lakewood acquired the .7-acre property in 2000. It was formally home to Meadowlark Cottages built in the 1960s as classrooms for Jeffco Public Schools.
