Here are the top stories today in Lakewood:
- Arctic blast headed this way on Thursday. Tuesday's surprise snow storm was just the beginning of this week's cold weather. Forecasters are calling for brutally cold nights and more snow later in the week (CBS)
- Colorado economy is still struggling from the pandemic, but is still doing better than most of the U.S. Colorado's economy continued to prosper in in the third quarter 2022, propelled mostly by job growth, according to the Quarterly Business and Economic Indicators report, which is prepared by the CU/Leeds Business Research Division and the State of Colorado. - El Pollo Loco triumphantly returns to Colorado with new location in Denver. Pollo Loco's last restaurant in Colorado shut down during the Great Recession in the late 2000s. Known for its tasty L.A. Mex style food, has plans to open eight more restaurants around the metro area. (9News)
- Colorado has a dismal recycling rate, but advocates are hoping to turn it around. Colorado's recycling rate is low, really low, with only 16 percent of the state's waste currently being diverted from landfills. But there's hope. Last year, the producer responsibility program was passed into law, and it requires that companies making paper, packaging and food utensils fund a statewide recycling system. (CPR)
- Alec Garnett, former Colorado House Speaker, will be Gov. Polis' next Chief Of Staff. The Outgoing House Speaker will take over the reigns from long time Polis aide Lisa Kaufmann who is stepping down from the role, but will remain as an advisor to the governor. (CO Newsline)
