Here are the top stories in Lakewood today:
- Car thefts continue to accelerate in Colorado. Colorado's stolen car rate – about 661 thefts per 100,000 people – for 2021 was the nation's highest, a 32 precent increase over 2020. Other western states in the top 10 list include New Mexico and Nevada. (APR)
- Hotels are in short supply in Colorado's high country. Lots of people want to visit the Colorado mountains, but staying in a hotel isn't always the best option. That's caused a rift in many of the region's mountain communities, as they struggle to provide enough housing for locals. (Summit Daily)
- Painting asphalt blue significantly reduces the surface temperature. People have heard me joke for years that if Denver's mayor wanted to, they could paint the streets blue. Turns out it's actually something that is good for the environment, too. (Fast Company)
- UCHealth research program develops robot for kidney transplants. The UCHealth University of Colorado Hospital is now providing robotic kidney transplants to patients that would ordinarily not be ineligible for a transplant. (9News)
- Warmer temperatures returning this week. After a cool weekend, warmer temperatures are returning, and metro Denver could see its 65th day over 90 degrees day this year. (FOX31)
