Deer Rescued After Falling Through Lakewood Reservoir Ice WATCH

The West Metro Fire and Rescue dive team pulled an exhausted deer out of the freezing water at Lakewood's Main Reservoir Sunday.

LAKEWOOD, CO -- The West Metro Fire and Rescue dive team got some rescue experience after the big snow Sunday, when they came to the aid of an exhausted deer stuck in the icy water at Lakewood's Main Reservoir. The deer had fallen through the ice, and had tried to escape, but was too tired to move, Metro Fire tweeted. The team broke a path through the ice and a diver grabbed the deer's antlers.

"Come on buddy, get up, get up," the rescuers say as the deer almost reaches the shore and collapses in a video released by Dominik Von Pichl. Eventually, the emergency staff pulled the deer onto the shore, where the animal crouched, frozen for some minutes while they dried him off with a towel.

After that, rescuers placed the deer in a heated compartment of the Lakewood Police animal control van to warm up, the fire department said.
