Here are the top stories in Lakewood today:
- Owners of Casa Bonita say the place is going to reopen next May. It won't be the same old Casa Bonita that Denverites have flocked to for cliff drivers, shenanigans in Black Bart's cave and sketchy food. The new, updated version of the iconic Lakewood restaurant will likely have have more than just a fresh coat of paint. (9News)
- New fund created to support inflow of migrants. The State of Colorado, the City of Denver and the Rose Foundation have teamed up to create a fund that will help support the wave of migrants that have been arriving in Colorado since early December. In addition to the fund being set up, organizers are seeking donations of winter clothing and other necessities for those arriving to the state. (Denverite)
- Home prices went crazy in Colorado during the pandemic. The housing market was hot during the pandemic. Home prices in Colorado hit record highs in 2021, but despite increases in mortgage rates home prices remain considerably higher than they were in 2019. (Patch)
- Most municipalities in Jefferson County aren't in a hurry to take up gun rights restrictions. Despite one of Colorado's most horrific mass killings (Columbine) happening in Littleton in 1999, there has been little interest by cities in Jeffco to take on the gun rights battle. (Complete CO)
- Hundreds of flights from DIA cancelled. Holiday travel is being impacted by the weather snap at the Denver International Airport. As of Friday morning, more than 200 flights have been cancelled and dozens more have been delayed. If you are scheduled to fly out today, make sure you check your airlines schedule before you head to the airport. (FOX31)
