Here are the top stories today in Lakewood:

  1. Green Mountain Girls Lacrosse Team wins state championship game. Green Mountain defeated Thompson Valley in the Class 4A state title game at DU on Sunday afternoon, bringing home the first state championship in the program's history. (9News)
  2. Winter storm creates havoc across the state. One Lakewood farm lost power and their crop of apple trees. For the Fleisher Family Farm, the aftermath of the snow storm was more than just a clean up, as the fallen trees and plants were part of the the farm's livelihood. (FOX31)
  3. Another plane crashes in Broomfield. A single-engine Piper PA32 crashed near the intersection of Las Brisas Drive and Anthem Road on Sunday morning, both the pilot and the passenger were killed. It's the second crash in less than two weeks in the area. (9News)
  4. Should they build another dam? Xcel Energy is proposing to build a new hydro-electric dam in Unaweep Canyon, but the plan would submerge part of the canyon underwater. (CO Sun)
  5. CDC dashboard has most of metro Denver moving to the medium COVID risk level. Denver, Arapahoe, Douglas, Jefferson, Broomfield and Larimer counties have all moved their dashboard low to medium. That means that there are currently at least 200 new COVID-19 cases for every 100,000 residents. (NYT)

  • Volunteer to help maintain trails on June 4 for National Trails Day! This year volunteers will work on a project at William F. Hayden Park on Green Mountain. Saturday, June 4, 8 a.m.-noon. (Lakewood)
  • The Upper Colorado River Interagency Fire Management Unit has partnered with the Western Colorado Conservation Corps to train and certify women from all over the country as federal wildland firefighters. (WCCC)
  • Warning about dead geese: Colorado Parks and Wildlife received a presumptive positive test for highly pathogenic avian influenza, commonly called bird flu, in dead goslings in Cottonwood Park, 10461 W. Evans Ave, Lakewood. (CDPHE)
