Here are the top stories today in Lakewood:

  1. Arrests made in Lakewood hit and run. Several people have been arrested in the hit-and-run crash that seriously injured a pedestrian in Lakewood on Sunday afternoon. The crash happened near West Colfax Avenue just west of Sheridan Boulevard when a 61-year-old man was crossing the street. (9News)
  2. How serious is the affordable housing crisis? Here are three charts that show just how bad it really is. The last two years of exponential rental price growth and soaring home values have only widened the gap. (Motley Fool)
  3. Property tax battle looms. After the Gallagher Amendment was overturned by voters in 2020, residential property owners have seen their tax bills go up. Private groups and legislators are wrangling about how to fix the problem. (CPR)
  4. Federal aid to be directed toward wildfire mitigation. This year Colorado will receive $18 million to mitigate future wildfires. The much needed money is part of the $131 million federal infrastructure bill, which will also release additional dollars in future years for the mitigation efforts across the western U.S. (CBS4)
  5. 2021 was a busy year for DIA. Denver International Airport was the world's third busiest airport passenger traffic in 2021. The recovery in domestic travel is credited with the boost in the Denver Aiport's ranking. (KMGH)
