Inspiring Residents Sought For Lakewood Award

LAKEWOOD, CO – Is there a Lakewoodian who inspires you? A call-out for nominations for Lakewood's Mayor’s Inspiration Award closes July 13. The awards seek to recognize remarkable people and organizations in the community.

The award started in 2017 with a recommendation from Lakewood’s Advisory Commission for an Inclusive Community, and is continuing the momentum of Lakewood's All America City Award, granted in 2016 and 2011. The program brings forward citizens who have contributed in "community engagement, collaboration, inclusiveness, diversity, innovation and community impact."

Multiple awards may be presented in each of the following categories:

• Youth: any individual under the age of 18
• Individual: any individual age 18 or older
• Organization: any business, association, service organization, nonprofit, team or group
• Special Shout-out: any achievements you would like to shout about

The winners will be evaluated by a panel of city staff and volunteers and Mayor Adam Paul will make the final selections, a press release said.

The committee will be looking for examples of civic engagement and collaboration; inclusiveness and diversity; innovation; impact and value to the community. Nominations will be expected to "share a story" showing "displays of leadership, problem solving and acting as a role model," the city's press release said.

Submit a nomination in three easy steps:

1. Determine if the person or organization is eligible. The Mayor’s Inspiration Award recognizes people making extraordinary contributions to the Lakewood community, in four categories: youth (under 18), individuals, organizations, and special shout-outs. Determine the appropriate category for your nominee and continue to step two.

2. Identify your nominee’s achievement areas and strengthen your nomination. Identify how your nominee has made a significant and positive impact on the Lakewood community. The Mayor’s Inspiration Awards are selected by a panel of evaluators and based on a select set of criteria. See the award criteria below to learn about how the nominations are evaluated.
