Here are the top stories today in Lakewood:

  1. Jeffco School District to release school closure list tonight. Parents, teachers, and students are nervously waiting to learn if their school will be closing at the end of school year. Amid declining enrollment across the district, the school board is forced to reduce the number of schools it can support, and that meeting is on Thursday, Aug 25. (CPR)
  2. Butter burgers and frozen custard is coming to Lakewood. Culver's is planning to open a new restaurant on South Wadsworth, with plans to swing open the doors by late December. (What Now Denver)
  3. Shorter winter seasons mean lower reservoir levels. A recent study indicates that that climate change is impacting the amount of snowfall in the winter, and that's impacting high country reservoirs that collect the melted snow. (9News)
  4. Superior's Target damaged in the Marshall Fire is finally reopening. Most of the damage was caused to the big box retailer's store by a faulty water suppression system. The store caught fire during the Marshall Fire, and after eight months of repairs, the store is set to reopen on Tuesday, Aug. 30. (FOX31)
  5. Federal and managers want to save Colorado's oldest trees. The effort is designed to protect mature forests and reverse the trend of old growth forests from vanishing. Hurdles still exist, as there's no consensus on which trees to include. (5280)
