Here are the top stories today in Lakewood:

  1. Arvada police officer funeral scheduled. Arvada Police officer Dillon Vakoff, 27, was killed on Sunday when he responded to a domestic disturbance call near 51st and I-70. His funeral is scheduled for Friday, Sept. 16. (Gazette)
  2. Front range counties that have the highest wildfire risk. More than 320,000 homes are in the considered to be in the high-risk zone in five counties in Colorado, including El Paso, Eagle, Jefferson, La Plata and Douglas counties. (Out There)
  3. School zone speeders in Wheat Ridge. Police in Wheat Ridge said they've been giving lots of tickets this year to motorists for speeding in school zones. (7News)
  4. Thieves are stealing copper wiring from RTD's train system. The Regional Transportation District's rail tracks have been hit more than a dozen times in the past six weeks by thieves that are stealing copper from the system's rail corridors. (CPR)
