Lakewood Mayor Encourages Residents To Take Coronavirus Pledge

LAKEWOOD, CO—Lakewood Mayor Adam Paul took to social media Tuesday to encourage residents to take 'The cure is us' pledge as way of being part of a nationwide campaign to help minimize the spread of the new coronavirus. So far, he said most residents are heeding state and local health orders.

"I know that these times have been quite challenging for all of us, and I just want to reach out and tell you how proud I am everybody coming together to fight this battle," the mayor said in a video posted to Twitter.

As of Monday, 1,431 people have contracted COVID-19 and 85 people have died from it in Jefferson County, according to Colorado Department of Public Health and Environment. As the state slowly begins to reopen, Paul said Lakewood's effort to fight the virus continues.

"Let’s continue to take safe precautions moving forward by washing hands, practicing social distancing, staying at home when possible," the mayor said. "And most of all now when we move into reopening phases, let’s make sure that we take the time to put a mask on to protect our safety and those around us."

As part of taking the 'The cure is us' pledge, people agree to live by common sense health guidelines, such as:

• Avoiding touching your face
• Covering your nose and mouth with your elbow when you cough or sneeze
• Looking out for your neighbors in need, especially the elderly or immunocompromised.
• Keep social distance of six feet between you and the next person.
• Listening to the experts and stay home, don't go out unless it's necessary.

“Please take the pledge. The cure is us. Together, we will win this battle," Mayor Paul said.
