Lakewood Police Chief Posts Video Addressing George Floyd's Death

Lakewood Police Chief Dan McCasky has a message for residents in the aftermath of George Floyd's death.

LAKEWOOD, CO — The Lakewood Police Department has posted a video in response to the death of George Floyd. Chief Dan McCasky said he's "shocked, appalled and disgusted" by Floyd's death.

The chief said that the department "does not support or tolerate" what happened to Floyd.

"We are offended by this outrageous conduct," McCasky says in the video. "Such conduct has led to the portrayal that everyone in the police profession is comparable to the officers who were part of this tragic event."

"We assure you this is not the case, and want you to continue to have faith in the members of the Lakewood Police Department," the chief says.

McCasky said his department has "extremely stringent hiring standards, relevant and ongoing training, and a very disciplined code of conduct."

Lakewood Mayor Adam Paul also released a statement after Floyd's death. After watching the video of Derek Chauvin kneeling on Floyd's neck for nearly 9 minutes, Paul said he was "horrified, angry and stunned."
