Lakewood's Earth Day To Celebrate Kids And Their Futures

Activities will include presentation of a kid-written sustainability plan, a climbing wall, seed planting and more.

LAKEWOOD, CO – Lakewood's 2019 Earth Day celebration will celebrate future generations with a kid-centric day of events that features kids teaching kids, and most likely even adults, the city said.

The yearly festival will take place between 11 a.m.-4 p.m. on April 27 at the Lakewood Heritage Center, 801 S. Yarrow St. The free event will feature music, a beer garden, more than 50 vendors, live birds of prey demonstrations, goats and sheep and a compost workshop.

The city has announced the following special events for the day:

  • Dunstan Middle School students will display their version of Lakewood’s Sustainability Plan that they wrote and illustrated. Their plan shows how kids can "help their families live more sustainably," the city said in a press release.

Other activities available during this free festival:

  • Sustainable backyard: Residents from Lakewood’s Sustainable Neighborhoods Program will teach attendees about planting for pollinators, using rain barrels, going zero waste in the home and managing animal husbandry with live goats and sheep on hand for demonstrations.
  • Electric bicycle demonstration, and you can even try them out.
  • Wool spinners demonstrating the types of products made from sheep’s wool.
  • Climbing wall and seed planting project for kids.
  • Electronic recycling 11 a.m.-3 p.m. next door at 777 S. Yarrow St. Fees apply.
