Man Shot, Killed Outside Lakewood Apartment Building

The Lakewood Police Department is investigating a fatal shooting.

LAKEWOOD, CO — A man was shot and killed in Lakewood Saturday, police said.

Officers were called to the 10000 block of West Jewell Avenue around 3 a.m. after a report of shots fired in the area. The officers found a 27-year-old man lying in a parking lot outside the Waterfront Apartments. He had suffered a gunshot wound, according to the Lakewood Police Department.

The 27-year-old was taken to a local hospital, where he died, police said.

A suspect, also a 27-year-old man, has been identified in connection with the case, police said. As of Monday afternoon, he had not been arrested or charged.

The suspect's identity has not been released "due to the nature of the investigation," police said. The victim's identity has also not been released.

There is no threat to the public at this time, Lakewood police said.
