Here are the top stories in Lakewood today:
- Where do people go when they can't afford Denver? "Go west" they said. Recent data shows that more than 16,000 people have moved to Lakewood from Denver, probably hoping to escape Denver's increased crime rates and skyrocketing housing prices. Now some in Lakewood are being pushed out because of increased home price across the city. (Denverite)
- COVID-19 deaths in Colorado still disturbingly high. Deaths from COVID-19 are still of significant concern, as more than one hundred deaths have been attributed to the disease in the week ending August 2, which is significantly higher than the previous three weeks combined. (Westword)
- Regional clean air plan moves forward, but does it go far enough? The plan to meet the EPA's ozone-reduction requirements admits upfront that it won't work. (CO Sun)
- Denver's LODO food truck ban gets national attention, and not in a good way. When the bars let out, Denver Police Department has been concerned about safety in lower downtown, and DPD has ordered food trucks out of the area, but the ban is reverberating throughout the community. (Tasting Table)
- CU closes its Boulder campus after threats made. On Friday, the University of Colorado Boulder decided to close its campus to students and employees after threats were made against several Denver metro area community colleges. (CU Today)
