Here are the top stories in Lakewood today:
- Coloradans aren't racing out to get their COVID-19 boost shots. Colorado's seven-day-average positivity is on the rise, which is 5.55 percent on Sept. 28, but only 4 percent of those eligible for the stab have received it since it was first available. (Westword)
- Gigi's Playhouse provides support for Down syndrome clients. The Destination Discovery program at GiGi's Playhouse in Lakewood provides educational, therapeutic-based and career development services to those with Down syndrome and support for their families. (PBS)
- This weekend's cold front could bring rain and snow in the high country. A cold front will move into Colorado on Friday with afternoon rain and thunderstorms in Denver and high elevation snow above the tree line is possible. (FOX31)
- Man trips into traffic in Wheat Ridge, is hit by passing car. A man using a walker tripped and then fell into Kipling Street and was then hit by a driver that took off. Wheat Ridge Police report that the driver may not have even known they hit the pedestrian. (7News)
- Municipalities are finally starting to see money from Colorado's share of the $400 million opioid settlement funds. The Colorado Opioid Abatement Council was set up to distribute the money across the state and are beginning to release those funds now. Municipalities can use the settlement funds on things like addiction treatment, recovery and prevention programs. Boulder hasn't received any money in the most recent distribution. (CPR)

- Explorer Program now accepting applications: The Lakewood Police Department is accepting applications for youth interested in law enforcement, as part of LPD's Explorer program. This is a wonderful opportunity for your 14–20-year-olds to ride-along with Lakewood Police Agents and get involved in their community. Click on the "Police Explorer" tab for more info. (Lakewood)
