Here are the top stories in Lakewood today:

  1. Man captured after he allegedly fires several shots at Lakewood police. Richard Lee Arellano had apparently stolen merchandise from the Walmart located at 7455 W. Colfax Avenue. When police approached the suspect, he pulled out a gun and fired several shots at them. (FOX31)
  2. Fentanyl deaths continue to overwhelm county coroner's offices. The ongoing fatal overdoses across the state have been supercharged by fentanyl and is wreaking havoc up and down the Front Range. The impacts on county medical examiners have been totally missed. (Westword)
  3. Is Lakewood ready for these kinds of homeless camp site fires? As Denver's homeless camp sweeps have spread the homeless across the metro area, is Lakewood prepared when these camps eventually turn into flaming infernos? (FOX31)
  4. Summit County plans to launch a Community Planning Lab. Summit County residents will soon be able to be part of the local planning process that helping shape the future of the community. The City of Lakewood has long hosted their version of this Lakewood Planning Academy. (Park Record)
  5. Vail Resorts says there's more to town's opposition to affordable housing project. The town of Vail has been fighting against a proposed employee housing project by Vail Resorts. Resort officials claim that the town's opposition "is less about protecting wildlife, and more about preventing affordable housing near the luxury homeowners." (Outthere)

  • Arrest made in fatal Lakewood hit and run. Irene Martinez, 55, has been arrested after a hit-and-run crash in Lakewood on Thursday night that left one dead. The crash happened On Sept. 29 shortly before 7 p.m., the driver was heading westbound and hit the pedestrian on West Colfax. (9News)
