Here are the top stories in Lakewood today:

  1. Attempted smash-and-grab at Lakewood gun shop fails. Thieves tried to drive their way into Machine Gun Tours gun shop on West Colfax but fled empty-handed when the security alarms went off. (KKTV)
  2. With metro Denver's home buying market cooling, renters forced to compete for scarce housing. Just when you thought the housing crisis couldn't get any worse, now renters are in the throes of bidding wars, and the housing market takes a turn for the worst. (7News)
  3. Will free transit lead to better air quality? Regional officials gathered at Denver's Union Station to kick off a month-long free transit program in hopes of reducing air pollution. (Patch)
  4. Wildfire and drought recovery bill passes U.S. House. A bill sponsored by Rep. Joe Neguse, entitled the Wildfire Response and Drought Resiliency Act, condensed nearly 50 bills into a single measure, and will provide desperately needed resources for drought and wildfire stricken states. (CPR)
  5. Downtown Denver's a fun place to hang out, but office workers are still missing from the equation. With nearly 8 million square feet of office space sitting vacant in downtown, and with employers offering hybrid work options, less than half of the pre-pandemic workers have returned to their offices in downtown Denver.
