Here are the top stories today in Lakewood:

1. Lakewood-based Natural Grocers opens its 44th store in Colorado. After a nearly decade-long search to open a store in Denver's Central Park neighborhood, the Lakewood-based grocery chain is has an opening date its 44th store in Colorado. Plans are being finalized for the grand opening celebration for the new store on Jan. 7. (The Packer)
2. Southwest Airlines cancels more Denver flights on Wednesday. The discount airline has cancelled more than 300 flights for Wednesday in Denver, and officials from the beleaguered company say more flights will be cancelled over the next few days. The cancellations are in place in hopes of rebalancing their system and getting the air carrier's operations back to normal. In the meantime, thousands of travelers have been stranded in Denver, and many have no way to retrieve their checked baggage. (CPR)
3. Bag fees are on the way in 2023 in Colorado. More than four million single-use plastic bags are used in Colorado every day. Beginning in January, a new Colorado law will require large retailers to charge a $0.10 fee per bag. (Edgewater Echo)
4. What's the big deal about the atmospheric river? Big snowfalls are expected in the west as the weather pattern that's referred to as an atmospheric river. This atmospheric river is essentially a conveyor belt of moisture that's pulled into the air from the Pacific Ocean and transported by the jet stream, and eventually becomes snow in the mountains.
