Stove Burner Left On Caused Lakewood Apt. Fire With No Injuries
Two dozen residents were displaced, but smoke detectors helped them to escape to safety, fire fighters said.

LAKEWOOD, CO -- Fire alarms saved the lives of residents of a Lakewood apartment complex in a fire early Tuesday morning, according to investigators. An unattended stove burner left on caused the fire in a third-floor apartment at West Hills Apartments in the 300 block of Van Gordon Street, firefighters said. All residents of the building, about 24 people, were evacuated and taken to emergency shelters.
"Smoke detector woke up occupants. No injuries," West Metro Fire and Rescue tweeted.
