FedEx Guy Dog Bite, Target Employee Theft: Lakewood Crime Blotter

Vintage Mercedes stolen, man beaten for flat-screen TV, plasma donor's cell phone nabbed and more Lakewood Police reports

LAKEWOOD, CO -- The following are some of the incidents reported by the Lakewood police between Nov. 3 and Dec. 1.

46 Weeks of Employee Theft at Target
Two employees at the Colorado Mills Mall Target were charged with theft Nov. 22 after a computer program run by loss protection staff identified they had been buying “abnormally large amounts of clearance items that had extremely low price[s].”
According to surveillance videos, the employees were allegedly switching price tags and putting clearance stickers on full price merchandise or just concealing items at checkout to steal them "consistently" and "almost daily." One woman admitted she’d stolen about $250 worth of clothes and shoes for 46 weeks, adding up to roughly $11,500. The other woman admitted she stole about $100 worth of merchandise weekly, adding up to $4600. Both women agreed to sign promissory notes agreeing to pay back the stolen goods.

Dog bites delivery man

Lakewood officers reported that a dog that had bitten a FedEx was cleared of quarantine Nov. 30 after a ten-day health check. The driver attempted to deliver a package Nov. 20 to an address in the 1200 block of Estes Ave. The package was to be left behind a gate, and when the driver entered the yard, he encountered two dogs, the smaller of which bit him on the leg, police reports said. The driver went to an urgent care facility and received antibiotics and a tetanus shot. The dogs were up-to-date on immunizations.

Construction tools stolen

A man working on an apartment building construction site in the 3900 block of South Wadsworth Boulevard reported Nov. 21 that some of his tools had been stolen. Missing from a secured room at the construction site were a Rigid air compressor (valued at $100) and a $160 Milwaukee multi-charger. Officers reported it appeared a door had been kicked in, but they could not confirm.

Plasma donor loses phone, ID

A man donating plasma Nov. 21 at a medical site in the 100 block of Sheridan Boulevard told police placed his cell phone and wallet on a waiting room table and they disappeared while he was in the examination rooms. Missing was a Samsung Galaxy S8 cellphone, drivers license and a social security card. Total loss value was $835.

Automotive shop break-in

Police responded to an alarm at an automotive repair company around 5:10 a.m. Nov. 29 in the 1900 block of Kipling Ave. They discovered the glass front door smashed in with damagage amounting to around $2,000. The owner said three laptops and a white 1998 Mercedes SUV valued at $5,000 were missing from the business. No arrests have been made on this case.

Stolen Pontiac, stolen laptop

Lakewood officers observed a silver Pontiac that was identified as stolen around midnight Dec. 3 driving westbound on 14th Avenue. The officer curbed the car at 14th and Jay Street and found the driver had a warrant for burglary from Boulder County. A stolen laptop and stolen temporary vehicle tag were also recovered from the car, police reported.

Mystery burglars

A man taking a walk to smoke, left his apartment around midnight Nov. 3, in the 10400 block of West 8th Avenue. He told police when he entered his apartment two people he didn’t recognize were inside. He said he was pushed from behind and hit on the head, causing him to black out momentarily. He told police his flat-screen television was missing from the apartment. No arrests have been made on this case.

Burglaries occurred in the following Lakewood locations:

  • A forced-entry burglary was reported Nov. 21 to a residence in the 5700 block of West Asbury Place. Total estimated loss was $970
  • A forced-entry burglary was reported in the 8000 block of West Eastman Place Nov. 21. Total estimated loss was $2,850
  • EZ Pawn reported a forced-entry burglary Nov. 22 in the 1300 block of South Sheridan Road. Loss was not reported.
  • A burglary was reported Nov. 22 in the 1600 block of South Ammons Street. Loss was not reported.
  • A forced-entry burglary was reported Nov. 22 at a business in the 5700 block of West 6th Avenue. Total estimated loss was $2,590.
  • A forced entry burglary was reported Nov. 22 in the 10600 block of West 7th Avenue. Estimated loss was $8,721.
  • A burglary was reported Dec. 1 in the 1200 block of Yukon Street via forced entry. Estimated total loss was $2,049.

These incidents represent a portion of the reports filed by the Lakewood Police Dept. Nov. 21-Dec. 1
