Here are the top stories today in Lakewood:

  1. Metro area counties are bracing for homeowners to protest tax valuations in 2023 as prices start to drop. While property prices shot through the roof over the past 10 years in metro Denver, so did tax bills. As the market cools, county assessors up and down the front range are expecting a barrage of tax valuation disputes if values begin to fall significantly. (Sentinel)
  2. Early snow pack levels in the Colorado high country is looking good. The state's snowpack is already at 140 percent of normal so far this year. That's good, but it's still way too early to know what the rest of the winter snow season will bring. (CO Sun)
  3. U.S. House District 3 race between Lauren Boebert and Adam Frisch may go to a recount. The hotly contested House race between the GOP incumbent and the Aspen former city councilmember is so close that it may go to an automatic recount once all the votes are counted. (FOX31)
  4. The White Horse on Alameda is one of the area's last dive bars, and its days may be numbered. Even though it's been closed for a while, the memories linger like the pictures on the walls, and now it's for sale. The bar near Sheridan and Alameda has members of the community wondering if it will reopen or be torn down to become yet another bland apartment building. (Denverite)
  5. Are beavers part of the climate change solution? A new study indicates that wild beavers could be part of the solution to protect water quality and ecosystem health from the effects of climate change. The results of the research focused on a beaver dam outside Crested Butte along the East River. (CPR)
