LAKEWOOD, CO — A woman and her dog fell through ice into a pond near Colorado Academy in Lakewood Sunday, West Metro Fire Rescue said. Both were critically injured.

Rescue crews arrived at 3800 South Pierce around 12:30 p.m. after the woman's husband saw his wife and their dog fall through the ice, fire officials said.

"Within two minutes of arrival, firefighters had reached the woman, and were able to get her out of the water, despite the extremely thin, crumbling ice," West Metro Fire Rescue said in a tweet. "They then rescued the dog."
