Step Up. Speak Out. 5K for Domestic Violence

Bad Moms of Parker will host the 2nd Annual Step Up. Speak Out. 5K on Sunday, October 4, 2026, at Tallman Meadow Park in Parker. The morning opens at 7:30 a.m., the race steps off at 8:00 a.m., and the event runs through 12:00 p.m. The community run and walk is dedicated to raising awareness during Domestic Violence Awareness Month and supporting survivors through education, advocacy and community action. The nonprofit launched the event in October 2025 and returns to the same park for its second year.

Parker Mayor Joshua Rivero and Town Councilmembers Brandi Wilks and Anne Barrington will be on hand to welcome participants at 7:30 a.m., ahead of the 8:00 a.m. start. More than 70 people turned out for the inaugural race last October, from high school students sprinting the course to mothers pushing strollers. Organizers built that morning to feel like a celebration rather than a memorial — a deliberate choice, and one they are keeping for year two.

“We started as a group of moms checking in on each other, and we learned quickly how many families in this town are quietly carrying something heavy,” said Beatriz Sutton, founder and board president of Bad Moms of Parker Community Outreach. “But this is not a sad morning. The people who have come through this are some of the strongest people in Parker, and October 4 is when we get to say so out loud.”

Because the course is non-timed and family-friendly, participants can move at their own pace — seasoned runners, casual walkers, families with strollers and anyone who wants to be part of the conversation are all welcome. The morning also includes pre-race guest speakers, live music and community vendors, giving attendees a reason to stay past the finish line.

Built Around Resilience

Awareness events on this subject often lean somber. Bad Moms of Parker chose the opposite, betting that a Sunday morning of music, families and neighbors moving together would say more about what life after abuse can look like than a moment of silence would. Pre-race speakers open the event, community vendors line the course, and survivors who have rebuilt are the ones the day is built to honor. The measure of the morning is who shows up, what they learn, and who walks away knowing that leaving is survivable and that people here will help.

Every registration includes an official Step Up. Speak Out. 5K T-shirt, a reusable sports bottle, a participant swag bag, a complimentary burrito after the race, and access to community vendors, music and pre-race guest speakers.

• General Admission — $35 for participants ages 13 and up
• Team of 4 — $100 — grab friends, family or coworkers and save, with full participant benefits for all four
• Participants 12 and under are FREE
