📰 News we're reading

1. The Town of Vail Just Banned Parking at a Popular Trailhead to Fight Overtourism (unofficialnetworks.com) — If you’re heading to Booth Lake Trail, you can’t park at the East Vail trailhead, nearby streets, Booth Creek Park, or Vail Mountain School through fall, and violators will be towed. Instead, the town urges hikers to use the free East Vail bus, bikes, or village garages for overnight trips, with detailed schedules and parking info available online.

2. Grand Valley can — but hasn't — asserted rights to water being used in Vail area (vaildaily.com) — Vail-area residents who get water from Eagle County providers tied to the Historic User Pool are being asked to cut outdoor watering to just one day a week to protect supplies. Grand Valley irrigators are sacrificing some of their senior Colorado River rights so upstream communities like Eagle County can maintain essential indoor use, but severe drought means every extra drop on lawns could hurt Western Slope farms and river habitat.

3. Drones set to illuminate Vail's night sky (vaildaily.com) — Vail residents can look up on June 6 as 500 drones create an 18-minute “Stories in the Sky” show above Nature Valley Mountain Plaza during the GoPro Mountain Games, celebrating Colorado’s 150th, America’s 250th, and Vail’s 60th. A second Colorado 150 drone show is also planned for Sept. 4 at Beaver Creek’s Oktoberfest, with custom imagery highlighting local outdoor sports and community pride.

4. Most Expensive and Cheapest States to Travel in 2026 (cheapism.com) — Vail gets singled out as one of Colorado’s pricier mountain towns, with higher costs for hotels, parking, food, and activities compared with cheaper alternatives like Salida or Leadville. The piece ranks the most and least expensive U.S. states for travel in 2026. It’s a useful snapshot if you’re weighing a Vail staycation against more budget-friendly road trips.
