📰 News we're reading

• ‘Everybody has embraced the beige': In a time of drought, Eagle River Water and Sanitation lauds water conservation (vaildaily.com) — Vail and Avon water users have cut consumption by an impressive 24%, the biggest reduction of any municipal system in Colorado, helping the Eagle River Water and Sanitation District weather an extreme drought year. With snowpack and reservoirs at historic lows, outdoor watering is limited to two days a week, and officials urge residents and hotels in Vail to keep conserving and fixing leaks.

• 3 Vail Valley Soccer Clubs compete at US Youth Soccer National Championships (vaildaily.com) — Vail Valley Soccer Club sent its 14U, 15U and 18U boys Navy teams to the US Youth Soccer National Championships in Utah after winning Colorado State Cup titles. While none advanced past pool play, coaches say the experience against top national competition fueled major growth and pride in representing Vail Valley, building on last year’s Presidents Cup successes.

• Royal Air Force returns to the skies above Eagle County (vaildaily.com) — If you’ve noticed unusually loud, massive jets overhead this week, Royal Air Force C-17 Globemaster III transport planes are conducting high-altitude training around Eagle County Regional Airport. The aircraft are making low passes rather than landing, taking advantage of the same high-altitude environment that also attracts U.S. military and NASA training, with coverage provided by the Vail Daily for local residents.
