15-Year-Old Girl Killed In Overnight Crash: State Police

Three 17-year-old boys and a 21-year-old man were also taken to hospitals after the collision in Brooklyn, according to police.

BROOKYLN, CT — A 15-year-old girl was killed in an overnight crash in Brooklyn, according to police.

The incident occurred around 4:30 a.m. Sunday, police said. A Toyota Prius traveling east on Allen Hill Road failed to stop at the Route 205 intersection, struck a tree head-on and came to rest in an embankment, according to police.

Chanelle Edwards, 15, of Griswold was taken to Day Kimball Hospital, where she was pronounced deceased, police said. Also in the car were a 17-year-old boy who was driving, two other 17-year-old boys who were passengers and a 21-year-old man, according to police. Two of the four survivors were in critical condition and all were taken to hospitals, police said.

The crash remained under investigation Sunday and no enforcement action was immediately taken, according to police, who said anyone with information was asked to call state Troop D at 860-779-4900.

Griswold Public Schools Superintendent Sean McKenna told NBC CT that Edwards was a student at the high school. In a statement, which NBC CT obtained, he wrote, "It is with heavy heart that I write to inform you that our Griswold Public Schools’ community has suffered a terrible loss."
