Chances are increasing that a Nor'easter will bring heavy rain, damaging wind gusts, and coastal flooding and erosion to Connecticut this weekend, according to meteorologists.
The National Weather Service in Boston says it is tracking the coastal storm, which is expected to impact Connecticut between Friday and Sunday.
Current projections show the system will have the strongest wind and highest precipitation in the southeastern section of Connecticut.
There is a potential for wind gusts of over 40 miles per hour, with stronger gusts along the coast and over the water, according to the National Weather Service.
Heavy rainfall could lead to inland flooding in southern New England between Friday and Sunday, its forecasters predict.
WTNH's meteorological team predicts there is the potential for a "significant coastal storm or hybrid tropical system" Friday and throughout this coming weekend.
"A prolonged period of impacts starting Friday and continuing through Monday with strong winds, heavy rain, and coastal flooding possible," WTNH reports.
WTNH predicts Friday will start out cloudy, with showers and wind arriving, followed by rain and gusty winds Saturday, and then the storm pulling away with tapering rain and wind Sunday. WTNH anticipates the whole state will see high winds, with the southeastern corner getting the strongest gusts, in the 45 to 50 mile per hour range.
WFSB is calling both Saturday and Sunday "First Alert Weather Days" due to the expected impact on outdoor plans.
As of Wednesday morning, WFSB's meteorologists said European and American models are showing different predictions.
The European model is showing periods of rain and gusty winds, while the American model is predicting a "glancing blow with showers and breezy conditions," WFSB said.
"The one thing that seems clear, currently, is that we won't get the *worst* of the storm. It's E/SE MA, the Cape/Islands that will receive the brunt of it (the strongest wind, the most rain, coastal flooding/erosion)," WFSB reports.
