Another CT Brewery Faces Financial Troubles: What To Know

Alvarium is located at 365 John Downey Drive Suite B in New Britain.

Brian Bugnacki, owner of Alvarium Beer Company, posted the following on Facebook:

"Transparency has always been important to us, which is why I want to personally share that Alvarium Beer Company has filed for Chapter 11 Reorganization.

"I know it sounds scary, but WE ARE NOT CLOSING OUR DOORS. This step is a strategic move to ensure Alvarium's future. Taproom operations, brewing, coffee roasting, and each team-member's role will continue exactly as it has while we restructure behind the scenes.

"Your support means the world to me and our entire team right now, as it always has. This community is unlike any other and we can't wait to see you in the taproom for a beer this week. Cheers!"

The announcement garnered over 450 reactions and 50 comments.

The news comes after Alvarium closed its cafe last month.

"We regretfully have to inform you that we are closing the cafe," a post on the Alvarium Roasting Co. Facebook page reads. "This isn't a decision that we made lightly, but between the current state of the economy and our location not getting enough traffic, we've been struggling to keep the doors open."

The cafe's last day open was Sept. 18. It opened in 2022.

Coffee beans and canned cold brew were still available online and at the brewery.

Alvarium said they are hoping the cafe closure isn't permanent and that they are looking at "future locations that we can hopefully build in..."

Alvarium has a 4.7-star average on 630 Google reviews. The beer company is "New Britain's first Microbrewery and taproom, comprised of a full team of busy bees working behind the scenes to make the magic happen around the clock," according to its website.

Five Churches Brewing, also in New Britain, closed in the summer after eight years in business.

In West Hartford, a brewery and coffee roaster announced it would close.
