The cumulative number of deaths among nursing home residents is based upon data reported by the Office of the Chief Medical Examiner. For public health surveillance, COVID-19-associated deaths include persons who tested positive for COVID-19 around the time of death (laboratory-confirmed) and persons whose death certificate lists COVID-19 disease as a cause of death or a significant condition contributing to death (probable).

Abbott Terrace Health Center in Waterbury has the most deaths with 31, up one from last week.

Mag Morelli, president of LeadingAge Connecticut and Matt Barrett, president and CEO the Connecticut Association of Health Care Facilities (CAHCF), released a statement on the nursing home weekly COVID-19 statistics and new initiatives announced today:

“The newly released data shows that the deadly virus still has hold on our Connecticut nursing homes. As such, our nursing home operators and employees won’t be letting up until the virus is defeated. The statewide testing of all nursing home residents and the improved availability of PPE on the immediate horizon will strengthen these efforts. Today’s announcement that next week’s report will include data on residents recovering from COVID-19 will also be helpful. These measures together hold a promise for better outcomes in the weeks ahead, but we are not able to say we are there yet.”
