CT Radio Host Joe D'Ambrosio Announces Departure From WTIC-AM
In the fall, he said he had grown frustrated by the current political climate.
HARTFORD, CT — Joe D'Ambrosio, the radio host with WTIC-AM, is making good on his promise to leave the station.
D'Ambrosio, a legendary Connecticut television and radio broadcaster, announced on his Twitter page Tuesday that his last day at the station will Thursday, because he had negotiated a buyout. He has not publicly said what his next steps will be.
In the fall, following an exchange with a caller during his morning show with co-host Ray Dunaway, D'Ambrosio said he was not going to renew his contract which was set to expire in June 2021.

At the time, he said that he had grown frustrated at the station due to the political climate, and because he was not allowed to fully share his opinions.
The station has been around since 1925, and in its current iteration, it leans heavily on syndicated conservative talk radio shows, led by Rush Limbaugh, which clashed with D'Ambrosio's sentiments.

In 2017, he left NBC CT after 25 years, the same year he ended a sports talk radio show on WTIC, and he began his mornings stint with Dunaway in 2018.
He was at WTIC for nearly 30 years and was also a longtime play-by-play announcer with UConn sports, writes the Hartford Courant.
Gov. Ned Lamont said "For nearly three decades, @JoeDSports has been the voice of Connecticut sports radio. I’ve appreciated the opportunity to chat with him on the air and I’m hopeful that he won’t be gone from the airwaves for long!"
Throughout the morning Tuesday, friends, colleagues and fans paid tribute to D'Ambrosio on Twitter:

Thirty-seven years ago, you couldn’t have been friendlier and more helpful to a UConn undergrad making his way through his first Big East media day and men’s hoop season. I’ve never forgotten it. Good luck with your next chapter.

You’re a pro and a great broadcaster and a better friend and colleague. Their loss will be your gain.
