Thunderstorms, Flooding Concerns Return In CT: Timeline, New Details Released

The run of beautiful weather is coming to an end. Here's the timeline and new details on the anticipated stormy weather in Connecticut.

CONNECTICUT — After an amazing few days of weather, sunshine and comfortable temperatures, the weather takes a turn for the worse beginning on Thursday and continuing through Friday.

It will be a mostly cloudy day in Connecticut on Thursday and then rain and thunderstorms develop late Thursday and for most of Friday, according to the National Weather Service.

A hazardous weather outlook has been issued for southern Connecticut, with the main concerns being heavy rain and flooding.

WFSB 3 TV forecast details

"During the afternoon and evening hours, isolated to scattered showers become likely. The likelihood for some steadier, perhaps heavier rain will come in time for tomorrow morning’s commute. Some rumbles of thunder will also be possible (but the severe risk is low)... Furthermore, there will be an ongoing chance for at least isolated showers and thunderstorms through tomorrow afternoon," wrote WFSB 3 TV Chief Meteorologist Mark Dixon with Scot Haney. Southern Connecticut forecast details via the National Weather Service:

In a hazardous weather outlook, the National Weather Service said, "The Weather Prediction Center has placed the area in a marginal risk of excessive rainfall on Friday. Isolated flash flooding remains a possibility, mainly for urban areas that can experience rapid runoff from heavy rainfall."

Today: A 20 percent chance of showers after 1 p.m. Mostly cloudy, with a high near 73. Southeast wind 5 to 10 mph.

Tonight: A chance of showers, then showers likely and possibly a thunderstorm after 3 a.m. Cloudy, with a low around 65. South wind 11 to 13 mph. Chance of precipitation is 70%. New rainfall amounts between a tenth and quarter of an inch, except higher amounts possible in thunderstorms.

Friday: Showers likely and possibly a thunderstorm before 3 p.m., then a chance of showers and thunderstorms after 3 p.m. Cloudy, with a high near 75. South wind around 15 mph. Chance of precipitation is 70%. New rainfall amounts between a half and three quarters of an inch possible.

Friday Night: A 40 percent chance of showers and thunderstorms. Mostly cloudy, with a low around 67. South wind 6 to 10 mph.

Saturday: A 30 percent chance of showers and thunderstorms, mainly before 9am. Partly sunny, with a high near 81. Northwest wind around 8 mph.

Sunday: Mostly sunny, with a high near 77.

Northern Connecticut forecast details via the National Weather Service:

Today: Increasing clouds, with a high near 72. Calm wind becoming south around 6 mph in the afternoon.

Tonight: A chance of showers, with thunderstorms also possible after 5 a.m. Cloudy, with a low around 63. South wind around 8 mph. Chance of precipitation is 50%. New rainfall amounts between a tenth and quarter of an inch, except higher amounts possible in thunderstorms.

Friday: Showers likely and possibly a thunderstorm before 9 a.m., then showers likely between 9 a.m. and 10 a.m., then showers likely and possibly a thunderstorm after 10 a.m. Some of the storms could produce heavy rain. Cloudy, with a high near 72. Southeast wind around 10 mph. Chance of precipitation is 70%. New rainfall amounts between 1 and 2 inches possible.

Friday Night: A chance of showers before 9 p.m., then a chance of showers and thunderstorms between 9 p.m. and 2 a.m., then a chance of showers after 2 a.m. Some of the storms could produce heavy rain. Mostly cloudy, with a low around 65. South wind 6 to 8 mph becoming west after midnight. Chance of precipitation is 40%. New rainfall amounts between a tenth and quarter of an inch, except higher amounts possible in thunderstorms.

Saturday: A chance of showers, mainly before 10 a.m. Partly sunny, with a high near 80. Northwest wind 6 to 8 mph. Chance of precipitation is 30%.

Sunday: Mostly sunny, with a high near 77. North wind around 9 mph.
