Timeline For Thunderstorms, Strong Wind Gusts, Downpours Released For CT

The timeline for heavy rain and thunderstorms has been released. Here are the new updates for Connecticut.

CONNECTICUT — Surprise, surprise, more rain is in the forecast for us.

Rain is forecast to begin during the afternoon hours and really intensify during the evening hours, and there may be some thunderstorms and strong wind gusts too, according to the National Weather Service.

Rain is forecast to begin after 3 p.m. Wind gusts may approach 30 mph and between 1-2 inches of rain is possible, especially in areas that get thunderstorms.

The rain is forecast to end prior to the morning commute on Friday. The sun will reappear and temperatures will approach 60 degrees. Saturday's weather forecast looks like a mixed bag, with some rain showers possible and also periods of sun and temperatures only in the mid 50s.

WTNH News 8 meteorologist Ryan Munn wrote in a Facebook post that between 8 p.m. and 1 a.m. looks to be the worst of the rain, wind and possible storms. (Read the full WTNH News 8 weather forecast here).

The National Weather Service out of New York, which oversees southern Connecticut, wrote "Heavy downpours may lower visibilities and create hazardous travel conditions. Be sure to allow extra time to get to your destination!"


Here are the forecast details for southern Connecticut:

This Afternoon: A chance of showers, then showers likely and possibly a thunderstorm after 4pm. Cloudy, with a high near 48. East wind 16 to 18 mph, with gusts as high as 29 mph. Chance of precipitation is 60%. New rainfall amounts between a tenth and quarter of an inch, except higher amounts possible in thunderstorms.

Tonight: Showers and possibly a thunderstorm, mainly before 5am, then a chance of showers and thunderstorms after 5am. Patchy fog after 5am. Temperature rising to around 50 by 3am. Breezy, with an east wind 11 to 21 mph. Chance of precipitation is 100%. New rainfall amounts between a half and three quarters of an inch possible.

Friday: A 30 percent chance of showers, mainly before 7am. Patchy fog before 9am. Otherwise, mostly sunny, with a high near 60. Southwest wind 6 to 11 mph.

Friday Night: Scattered showers after 3am. Partly cloudy, with a low around 43. Southwest wind 5 to 9 mph becoming calm after midnight. Chance of precipitation is 30%.

Saturday: Scattered showers, mainly before 3pm. Partly sunny, with a high near 55. Light south wind becoming southwest 6 to 11 mph in the morning. Chance of precipitation is 40%.


Here are the forecast details for northern Connecticut:

This Afternoon: A chance of showers, mainly after 3pm. Cloudy, with a high near 53. East wind 11 to 14 mph. Chance of precipitation is 30%. New precipitation amounts of less than a tenth of an inch possible.

Tonight: Showers and possibly a thunderstorm before 3am, then showers likely. Some of the storms could produce heavy rainfall. Low around 46. East wind 9 to 18 mph. Chance of precipitation is 100%. New rainfall amounts between 1 and 2 inches possible.

Friday: A chance of showers before 10am, then a slight chance of showers after 2pm. Partly sunny, with a high near 63. Light northwest wind becoming west 5 to 9 mph in the morning. Chance of precipitation is 30%. New precipitation amounts of less than a tenth of an inch possible.

Friday Night: Partly cloudy, with a low around 41. South wind around 6 mph.

Saturday: Showers likely, mainly between 11am and 2pm. Mostly cloudy, with a high near 58. Light south wind becoming southwest 6 to 11 mph in the morning. Winds could gust as high as 23 mph. Chance of precipitation is 60%.

Saturday Night: A chance of showers, mainly before 7pm. Mostly cloudy, with a low around 38. Northwest wind around 6 mph. Chance of precipitation is 30%.
