The deaths of a man and a woman in Voluntown this week were ruled a murder-suicide, according to state police.

VOLUNTOWN, CT — The couple police found dead at a Voluntown home died in a murder-suicide, according to state police.

State police responded to Hell Hollow Road after receiving a 911 call at 11:30 a.m. The woman calling reported an emergency at the address and said she was sorry before the call ended, according to reports.

Police arrived and found the body of a man in the home's driveway.

Police tried to make contact with the woman believed to be in the home, then sent a drone inside. Police could see an unresponsive woman in the stairwell who was also pronounced dead.

The state Chief Medical Examiner's Office ruled the 69-year-old man's death was due to homicide by gunshot wounds. The 65-year-old woman's death was ruled as a suicide due to a self-inflicted gunshot wound. They were a married couple, state police said.

Police have seized the gun used in the crime as evidence.

The investigation remains ongoing.
