The latest trip to a hidden gem offers an intense look at a controversial, but celebrated, historical figure.

NORWICH, CT — The latest march to a Hidden Gem in Connecticut takes us to an attraction perfect for those with a deep affection for U.S. history.

It's the Benedict Arnold Trail in Norwich.

"Benedict Arnold is Norwich's most infamous native son," the Walk Norwich website tells us.

It continues, "Discover the story of a controversial and complicated man who greatly impacted our nation’s history during the Revolutionary War."

The tour gives a glimpse into Benedict Arnold’s "complex childhood" and showcases "prominent Norwich figures" that played a role in the Revolutionary War.

Arnold, of course, was a celebrated soldier who rose to the rank of major general in the Continental Army, but then switched allegiances.

Many of the stops on the trail are located in the Norwichtown Local Historic District.

The tour can be explored in any order.

The Benedict Arnold Trail is about 2 miles in duration and is a relatively easy trek, save some some slightly uneven terrain.
