CT Weather: Milder Weather This Weekend, Rainy Saturday

Major weather changes begin tomorrow in Connecticut and along with that comes a weekend storm too.

Connecticut has broken records the past two days including this morning for coldest temps and on Saturday we're looking at heavy precipitation across the state. So one would think we're set up for a big snowstorm right? Wrong.

Temps will warm up by 30 degrees leading into Saturday afternoon. That is the good news. The bad news is we're looking at some heavy rain Saturday night and then more heavy rain Monday night into Tuesday.

Here are the details from the National Weather Service on the weekend forecast. A Hazardous Weather Outlook has already been issued for Northern Connecticut.

As for Friday, "Despite plenty of sunshine today temperatures will continue to average well below normal as the center of high pressure moves overhead this morning, then pushes off shore this afternoon. Highs will only be around freezing or lower ...

"Light rain will overspread the area from west to east Saturday afternoon, with a period of moderate to briefly heavy rain Saturday night. Minor urban and poor drainage flooding is the primary concern along with the possibility of small stream flooding. Widespread flooding does not seem likely at this time.

Mainly dry with seasonable temperatures will finish out the weekend on Sunday. There may be some lingering rain early Sunday morning, especially for eastern areas."

Specifically for Northern Connecticut, the NWS says, "Two soaking rain events are likely through early next week. The first looks to occur Saturday night perhaps lingering into Sunday morning followed by another sometime Monday into Tuesday morning. Given river levels are running very high...the potential exists for some minor river and stream flooding into early next week."
