Connecticut High School Student Killed In Car Crash: Report

CANTERBURY, CT — Andrew Vincent, 17, a Plainfield High School student, was killed in a car crash around 12:30 a.m. Saturday near Water Street in Canterbury, according to media reports including Fox 61.

Vincent was driving an Audi A4 at the time of the accident, and his vehicle ended up striking a utility pole, Fox 61 reported. An 18-year, who was a passenger in the vehicle, sustained serious injuries in the crash. The accident is under investigation.

Christopher Bitgood, the Principal of Plainfield High School, released a statement Saturday on the school's Facebook page. In the statement, Bitgood wrote that "we are deeply saddened to learn of the loss of one of our Plainfield High School students who tragically passed on last night."

"The entire PHS community expresses their heartfelt condolences to the family," Bitgood wrote, while adding grief counseling will be made available all next week.

"We wanted all parents and families to be aware of the situation so that you can take this opportunity to discuss this with your child and help them process. Talk with your child about his/her feelings about the tragedy and share your feelings too.

"Talk about what happened; give your child information he/she can understand. Reassure your child that they are safe; you may need to repeat this reassurance often. Listen and comfort your child often.

"...The Plainfield community is a strong and resilient community, and we will heal together. Our thoughts and prayers go out to the family during this time of loss and grief," the letter concludes.
