CONNECTICUT — Suspension of interstate youth hockey competitions, including youth leagues and public and private scholastic teams, has been extended through the end of March by the governors of seven Northeast states.

Governors Ned Lamont of Connecticut, Charlie Baker of Massachusetts, Janet Mills of Maine, Phil Murphy of New Jersey, Gina Raimondo of Rhode Island, Phil Scott of Vermont and Chris Sununu of New Hampshire made a joint announcement Friday, extending the suspension through at least March 31.

Interstate play was originally suspended in Connecticut in early November, following coronavirus outbreaks linked to a pair of summertime tournaments. Additionally, 18 Yale University players tested positive in early October.

A Nov. 12, 2020 decision by the seven governors read,"In response to recent coronavirus outbreaks associated with the conduct of interstate youth hockey activities, [the governors] support a regional approach to interstate competitions. As case numbers increase in many states across the country, it is critical that neighboring states coordinate a regional approach to limit further community spread of the virus."

The original order was effective through Dec. 31, 2020. In late December, the suspension was extended through Jan. 31, 2021.
