Sen. Blumenthal Breaks Leg At UConn Victory Parade: Reports

Blumenthal "got back up, dusted himself off, and finished the parade" in spite of the injury, Sen. Chris Murphy said.

HARTFORD, CT — U.S. Sen. Richard Blumenthal is expected to undergo surgery on Sunday after he suffered a broken femur in Saturday's victory parade for the University of Connecticut men's basketball team, according to reports.

Blumenthal was injured when someone taking video of him during the parade tripped and fell on him, the senator told News 12 Connecticut.

NBC Connecticut reported the person tripped and fell on Blumenthal from behind.

Chris Murphy, Connecticut's other senator, tweeted that after Blumenthal got knocked down, "he got back up, dusted himself off, and FINISHED THE PARADE."

"Most Dick Blumenthal thing ever," Murphy said.

It was not clear how far into the parade, celebrating the Huskies' NCAA championship, when the incident happened.

Blumenthal's spokesman told multiple news outlets that the 77-year-old senator anticipates making a full recovery.
