UConn Alum Dolson Makes History With 3-on-3 Basketball Gold

UConn great Stephanie Dolson and her US teammates won the first-ever Olympic 3-on-3 women's basketball tournament Wednesday.

STORRS, CT — University of Connecticut basketball alum Stephanie Dolson became part of Olympic history with a win in the 3-on-3 gold medal game Wednesday in Tokyo.

It was the first-ever competition for the format. The US team of former college stars who are now in the WNBA included Dolson (UConn, Chicago Sky), Allisha Gray (South Carolina, Las Vegas Aces), Kelsey Plum (Washington, Dallas Wings) and Jackie Young (Notre Dame, Las Vegas Aces). The US team beat Russia 18-15 after building an early lead and essentially controlling the game until a late run by the Russians.

The head coach is former Tennessee great and current Duke coach Kara Lawson, won a gold medal at the 2008 Olympics in 5-on-5 competition.

The 6-foot-5 Dolson led the US in scoring with seven points in the gold-medal game, while Plum had five points.
